Coffee from Burundi
Burundi grows Bourbon at high altitude on tiny plots — often a few hundred trees per family — and the best washing-station lots rival Rwanda's for floral clarity at a lower price.
Kayanza and Ngozi in the north are the established provinces. The country is landlocked, which adds cost and transit time to every container and has historically held back the reputation of the coffee rather than its quality.
Expect red fruit, black tea and a bright, juicy acidity. Like Rwanda, Burundi screens for the potato defect.
