Dry, dusty and slightly bitter rather than sweet — the smell of unsweetened cocoa powder. It usually comes from a medium roast on lower-altitude Latin American coffee, and it reads as depth rather than as fruit.

Most of them are washed-processed, though the note also appears in natural lots. It most often shares a bag with orange, brown sugar and red grape.
