Coffee from Uganda

Uganda is Africa's largest coffee exporter, mostly robusta, but the arabica grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon and in the Rwenzori range is some of the continent's most underrated.

Bugisu, on Elgon's western flank, is the established name; the Rwenzori mountains on the Congolese border are the newer one. SL14 and SL28 dominate, carried over from the same Kenyan breeding programme.

Washed Ugandan arabica tends toward black tea, citrus and brown sugar; naturals go deep into winey, jammy territory. Prices remain well below equivalent Kenyan lots.
